Llanidloes

Llanidloes is at the heart of the ancient medieval kingdom of Arwystli and the first town on the River Severn. Arwystli encapsulates many of the most beautiful towns and villages in Mid Wales; Llanidloes (of course), Llandinam, Trefeglwys, Caersws, Carno, Llangurig and beyond.

The main streets of Llanidloes were laid out in 1280 in the shape of a cross with the Old Market Hall at the centre. This unique building has served as a market place, prison, court-house, flannel store, place of worship and museum. It now houses a timber-framed buildings exhibition. The streets are home to a variety of shops; full of character and friendly - from bookshops, antique shops, cafes and restaurants.

Clywedog Dam, the tallest in Britain, is only 3 miles from Llanidloes. Many Visitors enjoy sailing and fishing there or taking a walk in nearby Hafren Forest. Opportunities for walkers have never been greater with over 30 routes recently improved with new fingerposts gates and stiles, linking the villages of Arwystli together. The annual Festival of the Great Outdoors in August means everyone can get out and take part in the numerous activities on offer in the area; archery, abseiling, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, badger watching and many more.
